Meet the Editor of The Journal for Nurse Practitioners

Marilyn W. Edmunds, President, Nurse Practitioner Connections, and Adjunct Faculty at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
What inspires me to be a journal editor?
I love the ability to influence and guide new NP authors. I also feel a mission to bring important clinical and policy information that impacts NP practice to help NPs develop their potential.
Most influential book I have read:
The Bible
Most influential nursing book I have read:
I don't have an influential nursing book. The most influential scientific work that has influenced my view of caring for or curing patients has been microbiology and genetic texts. These have fundamentally influenced my understanding of disease and disability and what role nurses have in caring for patients.
One tip or trick that makes my editor role easier:
Admit my own humanity and try to be approachable and compassionate with potential authors
My favorite vacation destination:
Any mountain
My best advice to novice editors:
Just like eating an elephant one bite at a time, master the components of the editor's role one small task at a time.
One word to summarize me:
Optimistic
